Some News and Info....

Well, its too bad that Ottawa could not come to terms with Greg Johnson, I really wanted him here and hoped that a deal could of been worked out, however Ottawa is deciding to go in a different direction. They had talked, but it never seemed to get 'real close' from what Im told.

The Emery rumour is false, for now. He could be apart of a mid-season/trade deadline deal but I have been told that it is 'highly unlikely' you would see him in another uni this year.

There is no truth to JP Dumont coming to Ottawa, unless he signs somewhere and is traded here right after. All Ottawa moves will be done via trade unless an amazing deal comes along. JP is 'very doubtful' I am told.

From what I am told you will see Serge Payer alot next year on the fourth line, Denis Hamel also. Dean McAmmond will play a pretty important 2nd-3rd line role with this team too.

Volchenkov is being casted as trade bait, lots of interest, we'll see how it works out, I am constantly trying to get more info on it, but it has a tight lid kept on it. Kelly aswell could be moved but very doubtful.

Lastly, I wont be posting as much until the pre-season in which I will be doing game reviews of all games, analysis/thoughts, insider info and reports about the team. The summer has been quite hectic.

Also please feel free to post any questions you may have in the Q&A below. If you don't have anything nice to input, then don't say anything at all, I get some bold comments from people who don't realize that I report what I hear. I am very involved with this team and follow them closer than anyone can imagine, so I do know a lot of what goes on in-front office, on-ice and behind the scenes. Take the info for what its worth, have fun with it as I don't have to do this for anyone, I do it because I like to give real SENS fans an inside glimpse behind the scenes and knowledgable info about the team.

Thanks.

- S.I.

Can you provide any more information as to what the Senators are looking for in exchange for Anton Volchenkov? Any by saying there is lots of interest - do you think it is likely that he gets traded before the start of the season?

Thanks.

The sens are looking for a forward, center preferably. It would be hard to get a high rate center for just Volchenkov, perhaps you would see a prospect moved also.

My involvement with the team is irrelevant. It will remain anonymous....Thanks for the kind words too.

Have you heard of anything regarding Brian Leetch possibly joining the Senators for next season? Obviously that would require a trade or two...

Thanks for the updates...

Nothing about Leetch. I would doubt he would be coming to Ottawa....actually I would say its about 99% sure he is not...

You heard it here first and now others are confirming it, that Volchenkov could be moved. Most likely at some point during the season, but perhaps earlier.
More info and a report next week.

So if they move Volchenkov, who will hit and block shots on defence? If we move him, there goes our most physical defenceman, after losing Chara of course. You would think that after losing Chara they would fill in a spot with a physical defenceman. You take out Volchenkov and all you're left with is Phillips and Schubert. I was hoping they would go after Witt after losing Chara. It is the New NHL but hitting is still part of the game and Redden, Preissing and Corvo aren't known for their physical play.

Corvo and Preissing will impress you all, I promise that much. Also, Corvo knows how to play the body, as does Meszaros, Schubert not to mention Phillips like you said. Volchenkov has gotten softer over the years, he used to be a beast, now is seems more timid than ever. I think they wouldn't mind moving him if the right offer came along while his stock is still high. They also have Jamie Allison who can play gritty and physical in there depth chart too.

I really can't understand all this talk of moving Volchenkov. He is a young solid d-man with plenty of upside left. Remember when everyone wanted Redden and Philips to be traded? Everyone said that Redden made too many mistakes and Philips was soft.

I'm of the opinion that young solid defensemen are untouchables and I really believe that Volchenkov fits this category.

Any updates for us on Leetch, Dumont etc...? This has been a very boring month for Sens fans, and a rumour or two might lighten things up. What teams are interested in Volchenkov?

I think EKLUND may be actually on to something. The Gionta to Ottawa rumour may be possible....I caught some wind of it not only online but through sources also. New Jersey isn't exclusively but are seeking a defenceman. Perhaps Volchenkov and a prospect or two.(which ottawa has lots of)...? Take it for what its worth...just something I can actually confirm has some truth to it. No serious serious talks however.

Gionta for Volchenkov plus prospects doesn't make sense from a Sens salary cap point of view. The Sens are currently around the $41 million mark, and with Kaigorodov now coming to training camp, that would push the Sens up to $42 million. Gionta is reportedly seeking $3.5 million, while Volchenkov's cap hit is $1.3 million. As such, the swap you suggest would render the Sens over the salary cap.

I would love the Sens to acquire Gionta, but the Sens would have to move more salary in such a deal then just Volchenkov. New Jersey is obviously looking to dump salary, so these Gionta to Ottawa rumours don't make a lot of SENSe to me.
